VAOC coordinates its legislative affairs through the Legislative Committee, a standing committee of members and member airports that meets regularly to address legislative issues and advance policies benefiting aviation across the Commonwealth.  The policy priorities of VAOC include: 

• Preserve and enhance funding for airport-related projects throughout the Commonwealth.
• Ensure statewide regulations protect airports, airspace, and the interests of the flying public.
• Maintain and establish programs that promote aviation, the aviation workforce, and airline services for the benefit of the Commonwealth.
• Support the economic viability of airports statewide by promoting policies that generate positive outcomes.

•  2024 Legislative Initiative: VAOC led a successful initiative to establish a formal process for Virginia airports to dispose of abandoned or derelict aircraft on airfields. Enacted into law as § 5.1-2.25, this legislation created, for the first time, a clear and uniform procedure for airports to address abandoned or derelict aircraft.
• 2025 Legislative Success: With strong support from Airport Sponsors, VAOC helped enact legislation requiring an airport noise property disclosure statement to be included in the buyer-beware clause of real estate transactions. The legislation also directed the Virginia Department of Aviation to maintain a public website containing airport noise exposure maps where such maps are available.

 Ongoing Advocacy Efforts: VAOC continues to work collaboratively with other state aviation organizations to advance initiatives that provide tax relief on aircraft parts and supplies, improve efficiency by aligning state airport funding allocations with the needs of both the Department of Aviation and airports, and preserve critical state aviation funding sources.
